Longhorn weekend.

I desperately wanted to visit the Texas Hill Country during the winter to avoid the summer heat.
We spent a long weekend in the Fredericksburg, a small German town with lots of wineries in its surrounding.

After analyzing the trip I would make a plan a bit different - just one overnight stay instead of two. It is better to go first to Enchanted Rock early in the morning for hiking. Then we could go to Longhorn Caverns for a tour and after that, we could drive to Fredericksburg to enjoy the evening meal with German sausage with a beer or a Texas wine. After a night in a hotel, it would be nice to take a walk in the morning town, eat a branch and drive back home. Or if you are without children to take a tour to the wineries will be the pleasant ending of a weekend.
This plan is about "back and forward", a lot of driving. But at least it is not about a waisting a time.

Enchanted Rock State Park.

It was +7C in the morning. Cold and strong wind reminded me Stavanger.

Hot sun, yellowish stones, cactuses and people in the blankets instead of proper winter clothes are not common things in Stavanger.

Children are looking for the fairy creatures living in these little pools - almost transparent shrimps.

Angry face?

I cannot imagine how to hike here in summer...

We came to the park at 09:00 and after lunch, we left it at noon.

Before going to the next destination I need to take a few pictures of the famous Texas Longhorn bulls. Unfortunately, some of the guys were not in the mood, some of them were to shy.

Longhorn Caverns State Park.

The tour to the caverns was about 90 minutes. It is great timing if you have kids and no other plans, but it is too short if you are planning to shoot with a tripod.

The low ceilings in some places, high humidity, air with no fresh air, a couple of sleeping Mexicans bats, crystals and no touching anything in the caverns at all! Otherwise, man's touch can destroy the fragile nature of the living organisms in the caverns.

Fredericksburg.

It is all about .... the legal consumption of alcohol!
We tried one sort of beer and ... we did not like it at all. The beverage was like diluted with a lot of water.

Main Street is the main street of the town with a lot of wine tasting rooms for adults above 21 years only.
We came Sunday around 16:00, took a walk on Main Street and very soon we discovered that most of the places close their doors at 17:00!

The streets are almost empty... It is a good time to take the pictures of the town. But at the same time, it's a bit scary when the place becomes deserted.

The historical area of the town. This church reminded me of the Tallinn Old town churches.

The evening Texas sunlight makes its wonderful job creating the unique patterns.

The width of the streets is impressive! It seems like the town is prepared to meet an enormous amount of visitors during the summer time.
- It is a strange town, mom. - my daughter said.
- Yes, indeed. Maybe it is beautiful and cozy in the summer, isn't it?

It is time to go home...
